Strict requirements for man and machine were accounted for during the design and construction of the Arcticflow, which must be able to withstand long-term, unrelenting stress. Extensive calculations and testing for ergonomics also helped achieve a “suspension” construction for the cabin that minimises the strain for those on board. Damping and controlling rolling motions in the cabin was one of the challenges that had to be faced, but it goes without saying that compromising on reliability was not an option. It presented a challenge that required specific expertise, which could be provided by entering into a partnership with Reiger suspension. Not only does Reiger deliver premium-quality shock absorbers, they also gladly took up the challenge of adjusting this boat’s suspension. This Dutch company has been a global player in the car and motorsports world for years. Many of the major teams do business with Reiger – and for good reason! Reiger’s technical know-how is unparalleled and whatever it is that allows big race trucks and cars to safely tear through a desert, is bound to work well for a boat too, as they move similarly.
With Reiger, we designed the shock absorbers and worked on both the torsion and anti-roll bars. We have gone to great lengths to find the perfect balance, but our efforts have been rewarded! The configuration with which this HDR boat is equipped has even exceeded the requirements.

In designing the Arcticflow, simple and straightforward maintenance has clearly been taken into account. All the materials used are durable and of the highest quality. For the 3 outboard engines, we have opted for the 300 HP Yamaha 4-stroke version. These low-noise outboard engines have amply proved their reliability. The positioning of the 3 engines is set up to also allow for sailing with only 2 of them. This effectively means that if, for whatever reason, one of the engines should fail, the boat will be able to seamlessly continue on the remaining ones. In addition, outboard engines are also much easier to disassemble, which means this boat can actually stay in service all the time.
It goes without saying that the Arcticflow is equipped with all necessary technical gadgets, all of which come in duplicate!
This boat measures 12 metres in total and has an empty weight, including engines, of 5,000kg. Its custom-made Hypalon tube contains 7 chambers, which experts from Italy have assembled in such a way that they can never come loose from the hull.
All aluminium welding was carried out by KD workboats in Urk, a specialist company in this field and very experienced in building boats that have to be able to cope with rough conditions. The hull and all ribs are made of 2 to 8 mm thick, high-quality aluminium. The bow thruster makes this sturdy RIB very easy to manoeuvre in a limited space. A diesel parking heater with an ingenious heating system ensures that the crew can perform their duties well during low temperatures.
